The Best Foods to Prevent Heart Disease
If heart disease runs in your family, it is important at this stage of your life to start something to prevent heart disease. Maintaining healthy eating and an active lifestyle are two of the most important ways to combat heart disease. Here are some of the best foods you should include regularly in your diet to prevent heart disease.
A major cause of heart disease is a diet that is high in saturated fats. Although trans-fats should be avoided, saturated fat is not much better. Taking in a large quantity of saturated fats, will increase the bad cholesterol in your body, will which make you a candidate for heart disease.
Ideally, you should try to ensure that you take in less than seven percent of daily calories from saturated fats, when most diets contain between twenty and thirty percent of calories from fat. The best way to reduce consumption of saturated fat in your diet, is to keep an eye on packaged foods, baked goods and fried foods.
Another way you can prevent heart disease, is to ensure that the sources of protein you choose is leaner. Often the higher fat sources of protein such as steak, beef, bacon, eggs and all dairy products, the higher the cholesterol, which will also promote an increase in heart disease. The best choice you can choose is chicken, fish, turkey, skim or low-fat dairy products and seafood.
The two types of foods you should eat as much as possible is fruits and vegetables. These contain a greater proportion of dietary fiber, a nutrient that helps fight major diseases of the heart and keep your weight under control. Since maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important protective factors for heart disease. Apart from this, fruit and vegetables has many antioxidants that help prevent the further development of heart disease.
Make smart decisions with carbohydrates, which will also help minimize the risk while you are setting parameters for overall health. Whole grains are a rich source of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin D, magnesium, phosphorus, selenium, zinc, iron and fiber to help all the right blood pressure and promote energy levels. Diets completely free of all grains often feel tired. This is not the best choice, for better results, exercise is also vital for the prevention of heart disease. By adding grains right in the right amounts, you will do everything you can maintain your weight and maintain energy levels where they should be.
Finally, the last thing you should do to try to lower your risk of developing cardiovascular disease is your sodium intake. The high sodium diet will also increase blood pressure, setting you up for heart disease. By incorporating more fruits and vegetables in your diet, limiting your salt intake will come naturally, but if you are consuming a lot of canned and processed foods, just make sure you read the labels these are usually the worst offenders of salt.
So remember these points. You can certainly make dramatic improvements in your diet to improve your risk of heart disease. Many people have tried to change their diet and lifestyle, but over time they return to their old eating habits. To see real results, you must make a permanent change in the way that you live.
