Lower Body Exercises For Beginning Bodybuilders


The squat exercise is an excellent combination that trains lots of muscles of the lower part of the body, but it should be learned properly after two months of strengthening muscles that can be used later on.

The lower part of your body consists of a quantity of the larger muscles, which can support heavy weights. For starters, you should focus on strengthening muscles by using machines to isolate each muscle groups.

The lower body muscles can be split into five different groups:

1. Quads are the large muscles that comprises of two muscles on the front of the thigh. These are the most important muscles when performing exercises, like squats, leg press, lunge & leg extension.

3. Gluteals forms the buttocks.

2. Hamstrings can be found in the back of the thigh.

5. Calves are the two muscles at the bottom of the leg.

4. Hip flexors are the small muscles in the front of the pelvis that let you lift the front legs.

For beginners try the following exercises:

Note: Do 2 Sets of 10 to 15 reps of each exercise.

1. Leg press is a great exercise for the quads.

2. Leg extension is an exercise for adding definition to the quads.

3. Hamstring curl isolates the hamstrings.

4. Standing calf raise is for the gastrocnemius muscle.

5. Seated calf raise is for the soleus muscle below the gastrocnemius muscle.

For the first few weeks complete two set but then add a set each week to a maximum of two. After two months, you’ll be able to go on to a more intense intermediate level of exercises.
