Consider fatty, cold water dwelling, fish. Salmon or any other fish high in omega-3 are great choices. Swordfish, halibut, and tuna are good too. Focus on dense, high quality proteins, high fiber, and dark green vegetables. Soy protein is also a good option, tofu is one example. If you like raw onions, eat them often. Garlic and nuts are beneficial as well.
Eat the right carbohydrates. Anything whole grain and high fiber is great for you. Learn some new recipes for beans and lentils. Use whole fruits and vegetables in recipes as often as possible. Opt for whole foods you cook yourself over preprocessed convenience foods.

Always discuss your diet and your concerns about raising HDL levels with your doctor or nutritionist, who can give you added insight and valuable ideas. However, your doctor can prescribe medications to aid you in reaching healthy HDL levels.
